The Harbinger
Look through the world for the old souls rising
as the empire falls upon our heads.
A call has come but few will follow
one world lives and another is dead.
When they call out your name, you say you're not here.
When they look in your eyes, they look into a mirror.
When their torches come, you'll turn into smoke
and the name that they gave you is all that they'll know.
Oh you, I know you wanted to pass through,
you're only passing through.
When the smoke blows away, one thing is clear:
We are the ones who will disappear.
Oh you, I know you wanted to fall through,
so go on, follow through.
Die to the world of electric fire
as the buildings crumble to their knees.
The world we know disappears like daylight
To meet the dawn we must welcome night.

We are young leaves on ancient branches
heavy fruit with tiny seeds.
Vultures lie in wait for pilgrims
cause sometimes god's hand is just out of reach.
I wait.
They say the world's an oyster
but some take more than they need.
And you can make your own choices
so we move mountains with our greed.
I wait.
Give this child a thousand voices,
give him bent backs in barren fields.
Forefathers, handshakes, bloody murder-
the story's the only thing that's real.
I wait.

Cities of Black Mesa
We all live in a house in a city
in the middle of the desert
but no one lives in the desert anymore.
We all live in a house in a city,
we all live in a circuit board
but no one lives in the desert anymore.
And I don't know what will happen when the water dries.
And I don't know what will happen when this dream ends.

Children of a Hungry World
We are the children of a hungry world.
We become hunters when we're boys and girls.
We wait for the future sharpening our tools
because we see that our leaders have been raised by wolves.
And I wonder what you see in the mirror of my eyes.
There is trouble inside us, well beneath our disguise.
And the world will tell you you must kill to survive
but the killer inside us doesn't really care why.

Sunlight at Break of Day

Sunlight at Break of Day
Nothing's as violent as the sunlight at break of day,
you close your eyes to stop your dreams from walking away.
Search through your pockets for the things that you used to say
but nothing's gone as what you had yesterday.
Just drink the bitter poison, sweet Socrates,
the truth is not enough for Mephistopheles.
And there's no life if there's no rain.
There's no child if there's no pain,
and are you hiding?
Cause I don't see anyone out here tonight.
Why do we hide when the truth is so bright?
There's nowhere to run from the coming of night.

Black Candles
I think I mighta lost my healing powers
I can't find the songs I once heard in the thorns and the flowers
These days I'm getting paid by the hour.
Road forked off back there
sun's going down and I'm getting scared.
What else could I have done
besides what I did?
Throw me a rope from the great dragnet of hope.
We thought we really knew ourselves when we had a place to live.
I know I haven't changed that much still something's got to give.
Sitting out in the cold
I think I'll take my chances.
The landscape is dead silent
it doesn't give me any answers.
Life is not a perfect arch
you've got to let it take it's shape.
Learning how to be myself
in this gallery of statuettes.

Drought
The rain never came
and the crops all went dry
wild dogs in the cathedral
under a ghost white white sky.
And I thought that I knew
the shape of the earth
from the form in my hands
and what little I'd seen.
But this is the desert
this is the wild
and these are the shapes
that come in the night.
Just up the road a ways
I see a place
where words evaporate.
In my armor
a rusted throne
that holds no light.
Sometimes I wonder
which ones home:
The known
or the unknown.
What could make us
live like this?
If anyone asks
we don't exist.

The Perfect Dark

They sing your name out on the oilfields
and when a vein bursts
the clouds fill up with light.
They say your name like you're a half-blood,
born in shadows
and you travel by night.
Got your vision from a black crow
but you're blind now,
and you're losing your mind.
Sometimes you hear the sirens howling,
tires squealing,
and the freezing of time.
Death has no face
So it borrows ours.
Light has no place
in the perfect dark.
You're lost and looking for your shadow
or your reflection
in some other eyes.
Coyote leads you down a dark road
across the river
to the other side.
Life finds a way,
we follow ours.
I hold a flame
in the perfect dark.
